Soft Foods - Lentil Soup


  • 1 lbs red lentils
  • 6 cups chicken or veggie broth
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1 Tbsp cumin
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil


  1. Cook onion and garlic over medium heat until soft.
  2. Add lentils, cumin, salt, chicken broth and combine. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to a low simmer. Cook at least 30 min or until lentils are very tender.
  3. Run the soup in batches through a food mill to grind and remove the hulls of lentils. Be sure the soup is completely smooth with no chunks.
  4. Add water or chicken broth to thin to the consistency.

Remember to always follow your surgeon’s guidelines for food recommendations after surgery. Make sure you grind and remove the hulls of the lentils! When you’re done there shouldn’t be any lumps or chunks! Enjoy.
