After struggling with my weight my whole entire life; I have been on every diet known to man, From Weight watchers, South Beach , Cabbage Diet , Juice Diet, the egg Diet , Diet Pill after diet pill!!
I researched for years the right step for me to take. The Obesity Control Center was the most informative site I found.
All of the information I was given was so helpful, all of the staff was very nice and helpful. Any questions you have they answer for you.
I decided that the Verticle Sleeve Gastrectomy was right for me. Everyone was very skeptical of me Traveling to Mexico. But after receiving all the information and the schedule the OCC supplies you with, my family was very comfortable with my decision, after I decided this is what I wanted the process was very simple and very fast.
When I arrived to the OCC and meet with DR. Ortiz I was put more at ease. He is so down to earth, and friendly. The nurses at the Center are amazing. You are in good hands at the OCC.
I started this journey at 275 pounds, The day I had surgery at the OCC I weighed in at 235. After great guidance from my nutritionist and amazing care before during and after surgery I weigh 155 today. I am proud of what I have accomplished. If you are considering Weight Loss Surgery Please stop hesitating and get in contact with The Obesity Control Center. 120 pounds lost is another person or 3 small toddlers, I hope I can inspire more people to take the leap into a new life it is amazing the energy and love I have for life now.
I love how differently I am treated, taking my buggy at the store or letting me cut in front of them in line, I use to be stared at for being so big, now I get stared at for looking so good!! You can too, Do your research go online and pick up the phone!! It's worth it...So very worth it!
NOTHING feels as good as getting your health back! Gastric Sleeve gave me back my life!
I began with the lap band in 2011... 3 years later I had a major slip then converted to the gastric sleeve this past August.
So far so good, just hoping to reach my goal sooner than later!
My journey began when I was a little girl. I struggled with my weight ever since I can remember. The kids at school were so mean. I can't even begin to list all of the names I was called.
Each time I heard another put down my go to was food. It was my comfort. The only thing that I "thought" I had control over. Years went by, and adults were just as bad as the kids when I was growing up. I specifically remember a time at the store (after I had lost 45 pounds and was so proud of myself) when a guy made a comment that "It must be fat girl shopping day. Did you see the size of her. Huge!" I was crushed.
I was still scared of the surgery, but in July 2012 I went for it. My life has not been the same since. I've lost 127 pounds, and I feel better than ever. I work out now. I can do a 5k in 38 min which is huge for me. My goal is to knock it down to 35 min. I would still like to lose a little more, but I am healthier now than ever. There are struggles every day, but I am much more positive that I can overcome them. I have never regretted my surgery.
Hi I'm Ashley Ford, 29 from Jonesboro GA. I started my weight loss journey in March 26, 2014 at 278 pounds. My current weight is 176 pounds. I have lost so far a total of 102 pounds. My goal weight is 150 pounds.
I'm grateful and blessed for all the supporters of my surgery. I don't know where I'd be in life if it was'nt for my surgeon (Dr. Kevin McGill). I tried countless diets and numerous weight loss pills with no long term result. I'm so excited to see the weight fall off and the words of encouragement. Since my surgery I have a better outlook on life. Watching what I eat is still hard, but worth every minute of it when I look in mirror and see someone I actually LIKE. I'm forever GRATEFUL to my surgeon and those who continue to help me. My journey is FAR from over but i cant wait to get to my goal weight... anyone considering the surgery SHOULD DO IT!
I spent years trying to loose weight so I joined gyms paid for trainers did almost every weight loss diets available. But absolutely nothing worked so I just accepted the fact that I was going to be overweight.
I was extremely depressed and hated who I was after years of feeling horrible about myself I decided to talk to my doctor about weight loss surgery and to my surprise he was on board it took several Months to go through all the specialists but I did it and on November 12th 2014. I was blessed with a second chance at life. I'm still working on a better me everyday.
I started out weighing 275 lbs. and knew I had to change something. Both my parents are diabetic and I was headed in the same direction. Thanks to healthy eating, exercise and of course my tool for life-- the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, I now weigh 212 lbs.
My journey is just now starting but the progress is wonderful-- still have a long way to go!
I struggled with my weight for years - bouncing back and forth repeatedly. I'd go on a "diet" and lose a lot of weight - sometimes very quickly and then I'd gain it all back again when the "diet" ended. I tried Atkins, Weight Watchers, Cabbage Soup diets, Heart attack patient diets, one diet that consisted of hard boiled eggs, bananas and frankfurters. I tried OTC pills to curb my appetite, feel fuller, flush fat or fluids and yes, even laxatives. I had doctors give me prescriptions for everything from "fen phen" (when it was legal) to Meridia and they all worked - temporarily. Usually the weight stayed off for 2-3 months and then started creeping back up. Sometimes it went back up quickly.
My last "diet" attempt was called the HCG diet. I asked my doctor for a prescription and she said no. So, being smarter than her, I went online and found a place I could order it from - in Hong Kong. You answer some medical questions online and a "doctor" writes the prescription!
I had high blood pressure - 2 pills daily; High cholesterol – 1 pill; Type 2 Diabetes - 1 pill. I also took 2 allergy pills and I had severe sleep apnea. I could barely walk. Getting out of bed in the morning was a huge chore that involved rolling over on my side, dragging one leg out of the bed and letting the weight of that leg pull me into a sitting position so I could then stand up.
My "go-to" midnight snack was the Stouffer's frozen macaroni & cheese. It was the FAMILY SIZE (4 or 5 servings) and I ate the WHOLE THING - probably 4 times a week.
My heaviest weight was 320. Surgery weight was 296 and today I am 155 lbs.! I am no longer on any meds, don’t have HBP, high cholesterol, diabetes or sleep apnea. I'm running 30-40 miles per week and training for marathon! I do strength training 2-3 times per week and usually add in some spin bike time on a non-running day. I've run 8 5Ks and placed in the Top 3 in my age bracket in 6 of them! I am healthier now than I was in my 30s!
I was a morbidly obese 23 year old. I weighed 427 pounds and was extremely unhealthy and on the verge of dying. My doctor told me to get my act together or I wouldn't live to see my 27th birthday!
I decided upon the lap band surgery to help me with portion control. I needed help, but I knew it would ultimately be up to me to make lifestyle changes.
After the surgery, I strictly followed my diet and healthy eating plan and began working out. In the first year, I lost 100 pounds! I started to run (something I had never done before). I developed a love of running and endurance exercise. In the past 3.5 years, I have run 39 half marathons, 7 full marathons, and 1 50-mile ultra marathon.
I have tons of goal endurance races coming. I am currently doing things with my body that I could never even DREAM of before! I've lost a total of approximately 260 pounds, and am still losing weight and inches.
I went from a clothing size 32 (3/4x) to a 6/8 (small/medium)! I am so happy with my decision to have the lap band; it saved my life!
